That's the sound of our hard earned retirement accounts going down the drain thanks to President Bush & all his greedy Republican cronies in the oil industry and Wall Street. I think we should make a list, round up the bastards, load them onto Airforce One and drop them in Baghdad in their suits and red ties. Then load the plane with as many US soldiers as will fit and start the evacuation.
Here's an assignment for paparazzi: hunt down the highest paid CEO's of now beleaguered American companies and figure out what they've been doing with all the money they've skimmed off the top for their own pleasure. Publish their home addresses perhaps. I propose that THEIR bank accounts be frozen and drained of assets and that cash be infused back into the companies they took it from. Let them share in the economic pain they have inflicted on the country as a whole with their high-risk, self-serving 'business models'. They caused this situation and now they head the US Treasury and have influence over Republican senators who are screaming for government welfare - the very thing they purport to despise - and all to save their own asses. If it comes to fruition, they'll be pointing at the Democrats and playing pin the tail on the donkey with this bailout. And us little schmucks in the middle class will have to suffer the consequences either way. Choice seems to be: say no to the bailout (not that we even HAVE that choice) and lose our nest eggs as the big 'safe' financial institutions close their doors and take our money with them, OR say yes to the bailout, keep our devalued nest eggs and watch an even bigger portion of our paychecks disappear for the privilege - and probably for the next 20 years. It's no choice. And it's not the fault of those of us in the hard working, self-disciplined middle-class. It's like living in a monarchy. To hell with 'God save the Queen'. Fuck the queen. And the king. And the whole goddamned court for that matter. Let them get up to the sound of an alarm clock every day, report to an 8 hour job, spend the nights in their cars in traffic running errands and all for 2 - 3 weeks of vacation at home doing house projects. The American way of life has come to be a travesty. I, for one, am sick to death of the whole thing. In my entire life, I have never felt this pessimistic.
Thank you Mr. President.
