Catchin' Up

Holy Hanna! Has it really been 13 days since I last fired up the blog? Huh. Must be havin' fun then, eh? Well, sort of. When last I wrote, it was on the cusp of a mini-vacation. Had some great plans for each day. You know what they say about plans and mice and all that jazz.....

Day 1: Headache wiped out quilting, but it was salvaged by sitting around watching movies and whatnot. Overall, not a bad way to spend a vacation day.
Day 2: Adventures downtown involving a dear friend, the train, a Post Secret exhibit, lunch with other friends, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and dinner with my lovely daughter. Sullied by being rear-ended on Grand Ave on the way to said dinner. Turned me into a space cadet for a week or so.
Day 3: Supposed to be a prep day for family gathering on Saturday. It was. However, the pace was accelerated to accommodate chiro, icing, insurance phone calls, car damage check. Oh well. No one was seriously hurt, car is merely scratched a bit, life goes on.
Day 4: Family gathering was perfect! Followed by unscheduled shopping excursion which featured no crying! That's a first for us. AND we found what we were after. Score!
Day 5: Frankly, I don't remember. But it was probably good.

Then, back to work and it was busy all week! Also good. I made chili to bring to the shop for Halloween, as usual. The guys pitched in too and someone brought "Better Than Sex Cake". OMG!

This past weekend, the continuing saga of the Socks That Weren't Meant To Be came to another abrupt halt when I discovered that the legs are different lengths. How on earth did that happen? I have made probably 20 pair of these socks and have never had them come out different lengths.

Conclusion: this skein of yarn was spun by someone in a foul mood or experiencing some sort of difficulty. It is possessed by some inherent evil and refuses to cooperate with the intented purpose I assigned to it. It's been one thing after another with this ball. Now that I've knit up the entirety of it, I have given up in complete frustration. I finally managed to navigate a German website to purchase another ($27.80 USD after shipping and currency conversion. That brings the total for this pair of gift socks to $45. Wow.)

Upon its arrival, I will start again and put this unpleasantness behind me. That's all I can do. I've read about knitting projects like this, but until now, had not experienced one. Glad that's behind me. Yesterday I started a new pair for my brother-in-law and cruised all the way down to the heel flap. He's a size 11.5. And a twin to my hubby. They turn 50 this month. That adds up to finishing 4 socks of enormous size by Thanksgiving. Wish me luck!

Today was good because someone brought me a whole bag of Snickers. Just for me! I shared with my co-workers but mostly because I've been trying to salvage what's left of my girlish figure. I know it's hidden under this layer somewhere and I've been working on finding it before it's too late.

Tonight my Tweety Bird spends the night so we can rush to vote in the morning and get her back to school! I am excited. This is my chance to mother her all up with food, vitamins, ice packs for her back and whatever else I can think of. My personal maternal style is spiky. Sort of like the graphs you see on a Richter scale.

Off to bake cookies and start the grill for steaks! Let the peak begin.........
